Should I include a resume when applying to colleges?

I've heard mixed advice on whether or not to send a resume with my college applications. How can I know which colleges actually require or look favorably upon including a resume?

While it's true that some colleges specifically request for students not to submit resumes, others welcome this additional document. Therefore, the first step is to check the specific application guidelines of each college you're applying to. It's often listed under the 'Supplemental Materials' section of their admissions website. If a college allows or requests resumes, it doesn’t hurt to add one.

A resume can serve as a useful tool for providing a succinct overview of your academic achievements, work experience, extracurricular activities, volunteer work, awards, and any special skills, like language proficiency or computer skills. This can be especially helpful if you've held leadership positions or completed significant projects that can't be fully explained in the application's activities section alone.

Remember, if you're including a resume, make sure it offers new information that isn't already covered in your application. If it's merely reiterating information listed elsewhere, it might not be beneficial.

Lastly, take care to craft a well-structured, clear, and concise resume, just like you would for a job application. Good luck with your college applications!
