When do we find out if we get into college?

As a high school junior starting the college application process next year, I'm curious about when I'll know if I've been accepted to colleges. Do most schools have the same notification dates, or does it vary?

The notification dates for college admissions can vary greatly between colleges and depend on the kind of application you submitted—Early Decision, Early Action, Regular Decision, or Rolling Admissions.

Students who apply early (both Early Decision and Early Action applications) usually receive decisions sometime in December, although it can be as early as November or as late as February. This varies by institution, so it is best to check each college's specific timeline.

For Regular Decision applicants, most colleges aim to get decisions out by late March or early April, giving students a few weeks to decide where to commit before the May 1st National Decision Day.

If you apply through Rolling Admissions, the school reviews applications as they come in and typically respond within a few weeks. So, the earlier you apply, the sooner you'll get your decision.

Remember, every college operates on its own schedule and these timelines can sometimes be affected by factors like the volume of applications a school receives. Always check individual college admission pages for the most current and specific dates! Keep in mind that if you're on a waitlist, you may not hear back until after May 1st.

Best of luck with your application process! Having a general idea of when you'll get decisions will hopefully help to ease some anxiety in your senior year.
