Exploring Different Trade Jobs After High School

I'm thinking about going into a trade after I graduate high school. What are some different trade jobs I should consider that would offer good career prospects?

Absolutely, going into a trade can provide a great career path with strong job security and solid income potential. Here's a list of a few trades that have excellent future prospects:

1. Electrician: This role involves wiring and maintaining electrical systems. Electricians are needed in nearly every setting from residential to commercial buildings. The need for electricians is expected to continue growing with demand for renewable energy sources.

2. HVAC Technician: Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning technicians install and repair heating and cooling systems. With increases in building construction and the complex nature of these systems, licensed HVAC technicians have been in high demand.

3. Plumber: Plumbers install and repair pipes in homes, commercial properties, and infrastructure. It's a role with a high degree of job security because regular maintenance and emergency repairs are consistently needed.

4. Welder: Welders are vital in many industries including construction, automobile manufacturing, shipbuilding, and more. Specialization in underrepresented forms of welding like underwater welding can especially make you more marketable and increase your income potential.

5. Wind Turbine Technician: As renewable energy grows, so does the need for trained professionals to maintain these systems. Wind turbine technicians handle the upkeep, repair, and installation of wind turbines.

6. Home Inspector: A certified home inspector assesses the condition of a home prior to sale. This role requires knowledge of construction, electrical and plumbing systems, and home safety.

7. Aircraft Mechanic: Specializing in the upkeep and repair of aircraft makes for an excellent trade with the growth of the aviation industry.

Remember that most of these careers will require specific vocational training or an apprenticeship. Moreover, you should consider what you'd enjoy doing, and possibly intern or shadow in a few of these jobs before making your decision. And remember, there can be many other trade professions out there as well - this list just scratches the surface!
