How to get started with trade jobs that require no experience?

I'm interested in starting a career in the trades but I don't have any experience yet. What are some trades that hire people with no experience, and how can I increase my chances of getting hired?

Looking to jump into the trades industry with no experience is a great idea, as many trade jobs usually offer on-the-job training to assist you in gaining the required skills. Here are a few starting points:

1. Consider Entry-Level Positions: Opportunities such as construction laborers, painter's helpers, or landscaping assistants usually require no experience. You can learn on the job while watching skilled professionals at work.

2. Commercial Truck Driving: Many companies will still hire you even if you do not have experience as long as you have a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL).

3. Apprenticeships: These are essentially paid job trainings where you work under skilled professionals in fields like Plumbing, HVAC, Electric work, or Carpentry. You get paid while you learn, and at the end of your apprenticeship, you're usually ready to work independently.

4. Vocational Training Programs: Many community colleges and trade schools offer programs to prepare you for a specific trade. They might even help you find an apprenticeship or entry-level job after you finish the program.

To increase your chances of getting hired, it's useful to:

- Have a strong work ethic: Employers in trades value hard work, reliability, and enthusiasm.

- Be safety conscious: Basic knowledge of safety regulations and practices is often seen as a positive.

- Improve physical fitness: Many trade jobs are physically demanding, so being fit can indeed be an asset.

- Gain relevant certifications: Depending on the field, acquiring relevant certifications can boost your employability.

Remember, everyone has to start somewhere, and it's perfectly ok to begin with little to no experience. Once you're in, your growth is typically based on your eagerness to learn and the work you put into mastering your trade. Good luck!
