What's AP Art History all about?

I came across the AP Art History course and I'm on the fence about whether to take it or not. Can someone share their experience or some insights about the curriculum and what to expect?

Hey there! AP Art History is a fascinating course that introduces students to art and architecture from different cultures, periods, and regions. The curriculum spans from prehistoric art to contemporary works, allowing you to gain a comprehensive understanding of art history. The course aims to teach you how to analyze art, understand its historical context, and develop critical thinking skills.

Throughout the year, you'll be learning about 250 works of art in depth, which are known as the required works. You'll study the formal qualities of these works, their function, their significance, and the role/iconography they played in their society. Additionally, you'll be expected to memorize certain terms and concepts related to art history.

As for the AP exam, it's composed of multiple-choice questions and free-response questions. The multiple-choice questions will test your knowledge of art, artists, and historical context, while the free-response questions will assess your ability to analyze and interpret works of art, sometimes comparing and contrasting them.
