What are some job trades that pay well for a high school graduate?

I'm considering going into a trade after high school instead of college. What are some trade jobs that offer good pay and benefits? Is there one that's particularly in demand right now?

There are several trades that come to mind that tend to pay well and have the potential for advancement:

1. Electrician: Electricians work with electrical systems, wiring equipment, and performing electrical repairs. As our world relies more and more on electrical equipment, this profession has high demand.

2. Plumber: As an essential service, plumbing often has solid job security and demand. Plumbers install and repair pipes that supply water and gas to, as well as carry waste away from, homes and businesses.

3. HVAC Technician: These technicians work on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. There's a good demand for HVAC technicians given the need for regular service and upgrading of outdated systems in existing homes and businesses, especially as energy efficiency becomes more crucial.

4. Contractor/Carpenter: Professionals in this trade work on building and repairing structures - homes, commercial buildings, etc. A contractor with his own business can make a solid income.

5. Elevator Mechanic: This is a less-known trade, but it's also well-paying. Elevator mechanics install, fix, and maintain elevators, escalators, and similar machinery.

6. Welder: Welders use heat to join and cut metal parts. They might work in several industries like construction, shipbuilding, and manufacturing. Advanced skills like underwater welding can command very high pay.

7. Radiation Therapist: This one is a bit more specialized and requires more training than the others, but it's a healthcare trade with substantial earning potential. These therapists operate machines that deliver radiation to patients for the treatment of cancer and other diseases.

Remember, each of these trades requires a period of training or apprenticeship. You may want to do additional research or talk to professionals in these fields to get a sense of what will suit you best. Regardless, the demand for skilled tradespeople continues to grow, making this a viable and lucrative alternative to traditional college pathways.
