What are some trade jobs with relatively short training periods?

I’d like to start working soon after high school, so I’m looking for trade jobs with fairly short training programs. Can anyone suggest trades where I can quickly gain the necessary skills?

Sure, there are several trade jobs that require relatively short periods of training and still offer good pay plus room for career advancement. Here are some you could consider:

1. Heavy Truck Driver: Training for a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) takes about 7 weeks on average, though this can vary by location. Truck drivers are highly in demand, and you get the opportunity to travel across the country.

2. Wind Turbine Technicians: They install, repair, and maintain wind turbines. The training usually lasts about 24 weeks and is often hands-on.

3. Phlebotomists: Phlebotomists draw blood for tests, transfusions, donations, or research and usually only requires 4 to 8 months to become certified.

4. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs): EMTs provide immediate medical care in emergency situations. Training can take from 3 weeks to 2 years depending on the level of EMT (1st, 2nd, or paramedic) you want to become.

5. Electrical power-line installers and repairers: They install and fix cables or wires used in electrical power or distribution systems. The training takes about a year to complete.

6. Plumbers, Pipefitters, and Steamfitters: These professionals install and repair pipes that carry liquids or gases. Although an apprenticeship in this field typically lasts four to five years, it combines paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction, which means you earn while you learn.

Remember though, that the job market varies by area, so look into the demand for these fields in your location before deciding. Also, while these are all viable careers, it's crucial to choose a trade that aligns with your interests and long-term career goals.
