Which college clubs compete in engineering research competitions?

I'm really interested in joining a college club that focuses on competitive engineering research. Does anyone know which colleges have the best clubs for this? I'm curious about schools with strong engineering competitions.

You're in luck! Many universities have student organizations devoted to engineering research and competitions. Here are a few examples:

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT): At MIT, you might take a look at the MIT Robotics Team. They compete in the annual international University Rover Challenge where teams must design and build their own rovers.

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU): CMU provides opportunities through organizations like the Robotics Club which participates in competitions like the NASA Rover Challenge.

Stanford University: Stanford has an active student club called the Solar Car Project. The team designs, builds, and races solar cars in competitions globally.

University of Illinois: Their student-led Illinois Robotics in Space (IRIS) club participates in the annual Revolutionary Aerospace Systems Concepts - Academic Linkage (RASC-AL) Robo-Operations Competition.

University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley): Their Concrete Canoe team competes in the American Society of Civil Engineers' annual Concrete Canoe Competition. They design, construct, and race canoes made of concrete.

Cornell University: Cornell has the Baja SAE – Cornell Racing team. They design, build, and race off-road vehicles in international competitions hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Keep in mind that competitions require not just a strong understanding of engineering principles but also teamwork and project management. Selectivity varies by club; some might require an application or tryout. Be sure to check the specific details for the club at the college you end up attending!
