How binding is Early Decision 2 at Vanderbilt?

If I apply Early Decision 2 to Vanderbilt, is it totally binding? Also, what happens if I change my mind about attending? I'm trying to figure out my application plan and commitments.

Early Decision (ED) plans - whether ED1 or ED2 - are indeed binding. This means if you get accepted to Vanderbilt under the ED2 plan, you're expected to enroll at the university unless there's a significant financial hardship that prevents you from doing so.

Before applying ED, you should be aware of the commitment you're making. Essentially, by applying ED, you're saying to the school, "If you admit me, I'll definitely attend." This makes the decision to apply ED a big one and should not be taken lightly.

If you were to change your mind after being accepted ED without a valid reason (like unmet financial need), it could create a negative impression of you in the admissions community, as colleges communicate about such cases.

However, if financial aid is a concern for you, you should use Vanderbilt's net price calculator to estimate your potential aid package. If Vanderbilt offers you an insufficient aid package and you can't afford to attend, you would be allowed to back out of the ED agreement.

In short, while ED2 is binding, there are contingencies for cases of financial hardship. Double-check with Vanderbilt's admissions office if you have particular concerns, but generally, you should only apply ED2 if Vanderbilt is your absolute first choice and you're committed to attending if accepted.
