What is the Best Job in the Trades Right Now?

I'm exploring different trade careers and want to know which ones are high-paying and in demand right now. Any suggestions on trades I should consider? Maybe something with a good work-life balance too?

A great field in trades to consider right now is the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) industry. This industry has an excellent wage potential with the Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting a mean annual wage of around $53,410 in May 2020 with top earners making over $80,000. The demand for HVAC technicians is high due to the essential nature of the work they do - everyone needs heating and cooling! Additionally, there's growth potential in this sector as energy efficiency and climate control technologies continue to evolve.

Another high-paying, in-demand career to consider is being an electrician. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for electricians was $56,180 in 2020, with the highest 10 percent earning more than $98,620. There is also anticipated job growth in this sector, particularly as more buildings need wiring for electrical, lighting, and control systems.

As for work-life balance, that largely depends on the specific job and employer. Independent contractors might have more flexibility with their schedules, but they could also have periods of lots of work followed by slow times. On the other hand, those working for a company may have a more stable schedule, but potentially less flexibility.

Always remember, too, that the "best" job is often the one that aligns well with your personal interests, skills, and career goals. So while some trades might be in high demand or pay well, if you're not interested in the work, it might not be the "best" for you.
