American University Early Decision 2 insights?

I’m thinking about applying to American University under Early Decision 2, but I’m not sure how it compares to regular decision. Does anyone have experience with their ED2 process or know if it gives a significant advantage?

Applying through Early Decision (ED) generally does give an applicant an edge, as schools know that ED students are committed and will definitely enroll if accepted, which helps them with their yield. American University, like many other institutions, similarly values the certainty ED applicants provide. However, the actual advantage you might see in terms of acceptance rates varies widely between schools, and specifics aren't usually shared by universities.

ED2 is essentially like the first round of Early Decision, but just a bit later, typically with a deadline in January. The fact that you're considering ED2 indicates that you've given the decision some thought and feel confident about AU being your top choice, which is essential because, like ED1, ED2 is also binding.

One potential advantage of ED2 is it allows you extra time to strengthen your application, whether that's improving your grades first semester senior year, adding new accomplishments, working more on your essays, or all of the above. However, considering financial aid is also significant, so be sure to use American University's net price calculator to get an estimate of your financial aid package.

Remember, applying under a binding decision plan should be done when you are fully ready, both academically and emotionally, to commit to a college. You should only apply if American University is undoubtedly your top choice and you are certain that if admitted, you would be able to attend, no matter what other acceptances or financial aid offers you might receive from other colleges.
