Early Decision 2 at Amherst College worth it?

Is there any student who applied to Amherst College through Early Decision 2? I'm really interested in Amherst but missed the Early Decision 1 deadline. Is this a good option, or should I just go with regular decision?

Sure, I'd be happy to help guide you through this. The decision to apply Early Decision II (ED II) versus Regular Decision (RD) typically revolves around a few factors: how strongly you feel about the school, your readiness with your application materials, and your financial situation.

Applying ED II can show a strong interest in the school and possibly enhance your chances of admission. Studies have shown that applying ED (whether it's ED I or II) tends to provide a boost in acceptance rates. That being said, keep in mind that the applicant pool in ED II might be stronger because many are students who were deferred or denied from their top-choice ED I schools.

It's also necessary for you to consider your financial situation. ED II, similar to ED I, is binding unless the school's financial aid offer doesn't make it feasible for you to attend (you'd need to demonstrate this). Hence, it's fundamental to be aware of the possible financial implications. If you are unsure about the financial commitment, it might be prudent to apply RD, as you could then compare financial aid offers from any schools at which you're accepted.

Ultimately, the decision comes down to which choice feels right for you, given your individual circumstances. Do your research, evaluate your feelings towards the school, and decide accordingly. Good luck!
