Early Decisions 1 vs 2 at BU - What's the Difference?

I'm a bit confused about Boston University's Early Decisions. How does ED2 differ from ED1 in terms of acceptance rates or application strategy? I'm trying to figure out the best time to apply.

Both Early Decision I (ED1) and Early Decision II (ED2) at Boston University are binding agreements, which means if you're accepted, you're committed to attending BU and must withdraw all other college applications.

The tangible difference is mainly the application deadlines and decision release dates. For ED1, the deadline is typically November 1, with notifications around mid-December. For ED2, the deadline is usually January 1, with notifications around mid-February.

As for acceptance rates, schools often don't differentiate between ED1 and ED2 acceptance rates in the data they release publicly. You generally have a better chance of getting in with early decision (ED1 or ED2) than regular decision, because it shows a high level of interest in the school.

Which one you apply for usually depends on your readiness. If you have your application all set, polished, and ready to go by November, you could apply ED1. On the other hand, if you finish your application by January, or you're applying ED to another school in the first round and want BU as a backup ED option if the first school doesn't accept you, ED2 might be the better option.

Keep in mind, however, the binding aspect of ED. Only apply ED1 or ED2 to a school if it's your top choice and you're sure you want to attend. You must also consider if you are comfortable making a commitment before reviewing all potential financial aid packages from other schools to which you might apply.
