What does financial aid look like for Early Decision 2 applicants?

I'm thinking of applying Early Decision 2 but I'm concerned about financial aid. Does anyone know what kind of financial aid packages are typically offered for ED2 students? Is it comparable to regular decision?

When it comes to financial aid, applying for Early Decision I or II doesn't inherently impact the size of your scholarship or aid package. Schools administer financial aid to all applicants - be they ED1, ED2, or Regular Decision - based on demonstrated financial need. The process for determining financial aid remains largely the same across all decision plans.

Before committing to apply ED2, though, you must understand the implications it carries. ED2, like ED1, is a binding agreement: if accepted, you are obligated to attend that school unless the financial aid package is simply not feasible for you and your family. Since you can't compare financial aid packages from other schools, it could put you in a tricky situation if the package offered doesn't meet your needs.

That said, many schools are quite transparent when it comes to financial aid, and this can provide clarity when considering ED2. By using the school's Net Price Calculator, which is usually available on their website, you can get a rough estimate of the financial aid you may receive.

Keep in mind that if your financial circumstances dramatically change after you've applied for ED2, you should communicate with the admission office of the college. They can help and sometimes may adjust your aid package based on the new information. So, while ED2 carries certain financial implications, it's very much a case-by-case issue and will depend on your family's financial situation and aid requirements.
