What's the process for applying to NYU Tisch through Early Decision 2?

I'm planning to apply to NYU Tisch and I'm considering the Early Decision 2 option. Can anyone share insights on how this process works and any tips for applying? Also, how binding is this option?

NYU's Early Decision 2 (ED2) is a great option if you are certain that Tisch is your top choice and you need a little extra time to strengthen your application. Now, the process works like this: you'll need to submit the Common Application, the NYU-specific supplement, your high school transcript, a teacher evaluation, and your test scores from the SAT or ACT (though these are optional for the 2025-2026 application cycle) by the ED2 deadline of January 1st. Be aware that the ED2 deadline varies between different programs within Tisch.

Specific to Tisch, you'll also need to submit a portfolio or audition depending on your intended program of study. Each department within Tisch has its own specific requirements, so make sure to check on NYU's website and tailor your portfolio or prepare for your audition accordingly.

Just like ED1, ED2 is a binding agreement. If you are accepted, you should withdraw your applications to other schools and commit to NYU. If you receive an inadequate financial aid award, it is possible to back out of the ED agreement, but the process is rigorous and requires significant proof of financial hardship, so it's recommended to use NYU's net price calculator before applying to make sure their financial aid kind offer is what you and your family need.

With this, you'll want to ensure your application is as strong as possible because, similar to regular decisions, there is no second chance to improve your grades, test scores, or extracurricular activities if you aren't accepted. Be sure to showcase your personal strengths and dedication to your field of interest through your essays and supplemental materials. Understand what makes you unique and how you envision contributing to Tisch's community.

Best of luck with your application to Tisch!
