Tufts Early Decision II Questions and Concerns

I'm planning to apply to Tufts under Early Decision II. What was the application process like for those who did it? Were the acceptance rates favorable compared to Regular Decision or Early Decision I? Any tips would be super helpful!

Applying for Early Decision II (ED II) at Tufts University, as with any college, generally involves the same application process as Early Decision I (ED I) or Regular Decision (RD). You'll submit the Common Application (or Coalition Application) with the Tufts-specific supplemental essays, your high school transcript, and recommendation letters from teachers and a guidance counselor, just as you would for RD or ED I.

The major difference is the timeline. The application deadline for ED II is typically in early January (January 6). If accepted through ED II, you’re expected to commit to attending, unless the financial aid package is not feasible for you.

In terms of acceptance rates, it's hard to pinpoint exact figures as colleges typically don't break down their acceptance rates between ED I and ED II. That being said, applying through either ED I or ED II can often boost your chances of admission relative to RD due to the commitment level. For reference, Tufts’ overall ED acceptance rate has often been higher than its RD acceptance rate. On average, applying ED can result in a 1.6x or a 60% increase in your chances of admission to selective schools.

Again, do remember that applying ED is a binding commitment. It means that if you're admitted, you're expected to enroll (unless the financial aid package is not feasible). Be sure you're entirely sure that Tufts is your first-choice school!
