Defer Admission at UCLA: What's the Process?

Has anyone here deferred their admission at UCLA before? I'm thinking about taking a gap year, but I'm not sure how the deferral process works or what the deadlines might be. Any advice would be appreciated!

To defer your admission at UCLA, you'd actually have to reapply for the next entering class. UCLA currently does not offer the option to defer admission for a year. Instead, they suggest that students who want to take a gap year decline their admission offer and reapply the following year.

While this can seem a bit intimidating, you shouldn't stress out too much. Your previous admission demonstrates that you have what UCLA is looking for in a student. That said, you'll want to use your gap year productively, which might include work, travel, internships, or other personal development activities.

When you do reapply, you'll need to fill out the UC application again, which opens August 1st and the deadline is November 30th. You will also need to write new personal insight question responses. You'll want to include what you accomplished during your gap year and how that might have helped you mature or develop new insights.

So if you're certain that a gap year is the right choice for you, go ahead and take that time to grow and learn. Just remember to keep track of your experiences and insights gained during that time, as it could provide valuable material for your application when you reapply. Good luck!
