Can I apply regular decision if deferred?

If I get deferred from a college that I applied to early, am I able to apply again during the regular decision period? How does that process usually work? Would appreciate some guidance on this.

When you are deferred from a college early action or early decision, it essentially means that the admissions office has not finalized your decision and wishes to review your application again in the context of the regular decision pool.

You typically do not need to reapply to the college in the regular decision round, because a deferral moves you to the regular decision pool automatically. However, being deferred does not necessarily improve your chances of acceptance during the regular decision round. It simply means your application will be evaluated all over again alongside the regular decision applicants.

Many schools invite students who have been deferred to submit additional information. This could include new academic achievements, awards, standardized test scores (if the college is not test-blind), or other significant updates since your early application. You might also consider sending a letter of Continued Interest to the admissions office, where you can directly express your strong interest in attending the college and detail any relevant updates. It shows both your genuine excitement about potentially attending and that you've continued to achieve academically or personally.

Remember that each school may have slightly different protocols and guidelines concerning deferred applicants, so it's a good idea to review the original deferral letter you received or check the college's admissions policies for exact steps on how to proceed if deferred.
