How do I switch from early action to regular decision?

I applied somewhere early action, but I've reconsidered and might want to switch to regular decision. Has anyone ever done this, and how should I go about it if it's even possible?

While it's not a common situation, switching from Early Action (EA) to Regular Decision (RD) is usually possible. The first thing you should do is to contact the admissions office of the college where you applied. You can find their contact information, usually an email or phone number, on the college's admissions webpage.

Send them a polite email (or make a call) explaining your situation. Include your full name, the program you applied to, and your application ID (if you have one). There's also a chance they might want to know why you're making the change, so prepare to answer this question if it comes up.

However, deadlines are important, so reach out to them as soon as possible. Remember that most deadlines for Early Action are usually in November, while Regular Decision deadlines tend to fall in January. There might be a narrow window when you can still make this switch without confusing things.

Keep in mind that every institution may handle this situation differently. Some may not allow it at all, or there may be exceptions or specific procedures depending on the school. It’s always best to get their response and guidance straight from the source.

If the college does allow you to switch from EA to RD, they will likely give you instructions on what steps to take next. Follow these instructions carefully, and make sure to get any changes in writing (or save any correspondence regarding the change) for future reference. Good luck!
