Fall 2025 Regular Decision: How to Prepare Now?

I know it's early, but I'm already thinking about applying Regular Decision for fall 2025. Any tips on what I should be focusing on how to build a strong application? Balancing everything is tough!

To strengthen your application, you can follow these steps:

1. Academics: Excelling academically is a significant aspect of college applications. Aim for strong grades and consider taking several challenging classes, such as Advanced Placement or Honors, to show colleges that you are academically motivated.

2. Standardized Tests: Start preparing for the SAT or ACT if you're applying to colleges that are not test-blind. This will give you ample time to practice and perhaps take the test multiple times if necessary for your desired score.

3. Extracurricular Activities: Colleges are interested in students who are passionate and dedicated, and extracurricular activities demonstrate this. Start involving yourself in extracurriculars that align with your interests and talents; don't overcommit or generalize, but rather, show your passion through deeper involvement in 2-3 areas.

4. Leadership Positions: If possible, strive for leadership positions in your extracurricular activities as this could demonstrate your ability to manage and lead teams, a characteristic that is often highly valued by colleges.

5. Community Service: Consider getting involved with local community service projects. Schools appreciate applicants who have displayed a commitment to bettering their communities.

6. Building Relationships for Letters of Recommendation: Start building good relationships with your teachers and counselors. These professionals will be asked to write your recommendation letters, and a strong relationship with them can lead to a more personalized and supportive letter.

7. College Research: Start researching colleges now. Look at factors like location, size, majors, campus culture, and financial aid offerings to help you determine where you'd like to apply.

8. Essays: Begin thinking about potential topics for your statement and supplemental essays. Remember, keep your topics personal and focus on times when you faced a challenge, learned something important, or had a significant experience.

Remember, the process is a marathon, not a sprint. Don't rush - take each step in stride and try not to get too overwhelmed. Plan your time effectively and make sure to keep a balance. Enjoy your high school years while preparing for your future ones. Good luck!
