Are regular decision admissions binding?

I'm a bit confused about the regular decision process. Are these decisions non-binding, meaning I'm not obligated to attend if accepted, or is there a commitment involved like with early decision?

Regular decision acceptances are non-binding. This means that if you're accepted to a college via regular decision, you are not obligated to attend. It is an option for you to consider, not a commitment. This contrasts with Early Decision (ED), which is binding: if you are accepted to a school where you applied ED, you are expected to enroll, unless the financial aid package does not make it feasible for you.

You are typically given until May 1st, which is commonly known as National Decision Day, to make your decision. This allows you to compare all of your acceptances, financial aid packages and overall fits before making your choice.

However, it is still important to make your intentions clear as soon as your plans are set so colleges can free up spots for waitlisted students. It's also good to note that if you apply Early Action (EA), that is also non-binding. The main difference between EA and Regular Decision is the application due date and when you receive your admissions decision. EA applications are due earlier and you receive your decision ahead of the RD pool.
