Do deferred students get priority during regular decision?

I was deferred from my early action choice and I'm wondering if that gives me any sort of edge in the regular decision round. Does being deferred actually help my chances of getting accepted later?

Being deferred during early action doesn't necessarily give you a "priority" or advantage in the regular decision round. That's not to say that it's bad news, either. Rather, it means that the admissions committee didn't outright deny your application and wants to review it again alongside the regular decision pool.

What it does provide, though, is an opportunity for you to enhance your application. Many schools allow deferred applicants to submit an update letter, sometimes called a letter of continued interest or LOCI. This typically includes any relevant updates to your academic and personal achievements since you originally submitted your application. This could showcase any new grades, awards, leadership roles, or compelling reasons why you still love and can contribute to the college.

In conclusion, while being deferred does not give you a definitive advantage, it's certainly not a mark against you. It's simply an extra step in the admissions process, and you have an opportunity to make the most of it.
