Switching from ED to Regular Decision?

I applied early decision to a college but I'm having second thoughts. Is it possible to change my application to regular decision without too many complications?

Yes, you can switch your application from Early Decision (ED) to Regular Decision (RD), but you'll need to do this as soon as possible. You should contact the admissions office of the college to which you applied ED and request they change your application to RD.

Please keep in mind that this request must be made prior to the Early Decision notification date. If you make this request after the ED decision notification has been made, it will likely not be possible to change your decision plan and you'll be bound by the ED agreement if you're accepted.

Make sure to put this request in writing and get a written confirmation from your college that your decision plan has been changed. This way, you'll have proof that your decision plan has been switched to Regular Decision. Be aware that, upon making this change, you may not hear back from the college until the Regular Decision notifications, which are typically later in the spring.
