What happens to Early Decision applications in Regular Decision?

If you apply Early Decision and aren't accepted, does your application automatically get reconsidered during the Regular Decision round, or do you have to reapply?

When you apply Early Decision (ED) to a college and get deferred, this means that your application is not rejected, but instead moved to the Regular Decision (RD) pool for further consideration. There's no need to reapply — your application will automatically be reviewed along with the RD applications.

That said, each college may handle this process slightly differently. Some might ask deferred applicants to submit an additional statement of continued interest or updated grades, while others will simply review the original application. So, it's important to read all communications from the school carefully and follow their particular instructions.

Deferred applicants are typically notified of their final decision along with the rest of the RD applicants. The exact timelines will depend on the college's schedule, which usually can be found on their admissions website. Remember that being deferred doesn't necessarily lessen your chances of being accepted in the RD round. Just make sure to continue demonstrating your strengths and interest in the school.
