How does the regular decision process work for Columbia applicants through QuestBridge? I matched with another school, but I'm considering Columbia and curious about how it works with QuestBridge.
If you've matched with another school through QuestBridge's National College Match, you must attend that school, based on the binding agreement with QuestBridge—you can't apply to Columbia for Regular Decision. However, if you weren't matched with any school, then you can absolutely apply to Columbia under the QuestBridge Regular Decision process.
Here's how the process works:
QuestBridge will forward your application materials to Columbia after the Match is completed. If Columbia was on your original list of schools, the university's admissions office will automatically receive these documents—no additional action is needed from you. However, if Columbia was NOT on your original list of schools, then you'll need to manually add it on your QuestBridge application to have your materials sent there.
In addition, Columbia requires a few additional materials as part of their QuestBridge Regular Decision process:
1. Columbia-specific questions
2. Two teacher recommendations
3. Midyear report
4. Columbia supplement
The deadline for submitting these documents is generally in early January. Once you submit these materials, they'll be reviewed alongside all the other Regular Decision applications. Columbia admissions officers will take into consideration your socio-economic background in the evaluation process. You'll receive the decision in late March or early April, just like regular decision applicants.
It's also worth noting that Columbia is need-blind for U.S citizens, permanent residents, and those students who are undocumented and living in the U.S, which means your ability to pay will not factor into your admissions decision. They promise to meet 100% of demonstrated financial need for all admitted students, including those admitted through QuestBridge.
Best of luck with your application process!
