Exploring Skilled Trades Job Fair with FCA

Has anyone attended the FCA skilled trades job fair before? I'm curious if it's worth going to as a high schooler interested in trades, and what opportunities or connections I might find there. Any tips on what to prepare or expect?

Response: It's great that you're interested in attending the FCA Skilled Trades Job Fair, especially as someone who is considering going into the trades! These kinds of events can be great ways to learn about different career paths and get some hands-on experience with the types of work you might do in various trades.

While I haven't personally attended the FCA Skilled Trades Job Fair, I do know that job fairs, in general, tend to be time well spent for students. High-school attendees can get the chance to interact with professionals in the field, understand different roles within skilled trades, and even explore apprenticeship or internship opportunities.

In terms of prep, I would suggest having a neat, presentable appearance, and bringing copies of your resume or CV if you have one. Even if you don't have much experience yet, you can still include notable items like technical or trade coursework, any heavy machinery or technical software you are comfortable with, and other relevant skills.

Another tip is to go in with a clear idea of what you want to find out. Carry a list of questions you'd want answered, like what types of roles are available, what education or training is needed, and what the daily tasks in such a job might look like. Moreover, if you already have a specific trade in mind that you're interested in, don't shy away from sharing that! Employers like interacting with informed and motivated individuals.

Remember, job fairs work both ways - companies are there looking for potential candidates, but it’s equally an opportunity for you to assess if these companies align with your career goals and interests. So, while it's important to make a good impression, it's also key for you to gather the information you need.

Lastly, don't forget to follow-up after the fair, especially if there are companies or individuals that stood out to you. An email thanking them for their time and expressing continued interest can go a long way.

Hope you find this helpful. Enjoy your experience at the job fair!
