Best humanitarian programs for a gap year?

I'm interested in spending my gap year involved in humanitarian work. Does anyone know of impactful programs where I can really make a difference? I'm looking for a mix of volunteering and learning. Any personal experiences would be helpful!

There are many wonderful programs that offer impactful experiences in the field of humanitarian work during a gap year. It's great to see your interest in using this time to not only develop personally but also to contribute positively to the world. When choosing a gap year program, it's important to consider the type of work you hope to do, where you want to do it, and what you hope to learn.

1. United Planet: United Planet's Gap Year Volunteering Abroad program offers a unique blend of volunteering, cultural immersion, and adventure. You can choose between short-term (1-12 weeks) and long-term (6 months to 1 year) volunteering programs in over 35 countries. They have a broad selection of projects focusing on community development, education, health and the environment among others.

2. Projects Abroad: They are one of the largest volunteer abroad organizations in the world and have a vast array of projects, so you're likely to find something that aligns with your interests. Projects range from childcare, teaching, to more specialized programs like human rights, journalism, and veterinary medicine.

3. International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ): IVHQ provides affordable, safe, and responsible volunteer abroad programs. They offer a variety of project types including teaching, childcare, community development, medical and health, construction and renovation, and wildlife and environmental conservation.

4. GVI: Offering volunteer opportunities in several countries across various sectors, GVI is another reputable organization worth considering. Areas of focus include wildlife conservation, women's empowerment, public health, and education.

Remember, the most impactful program will be one that aligns with your interests and goals for your gap year. Be sure to research each prospect thoroughly to ensure they are ethical and responsible in their practices. That way, you can be confident that your work will truly make a difference.
