I've got several college interviews coming up and want to prepare myself as best as possible. What are some common questions, and how should I think about structuring my answers?

College interviews tend to revolve around several main themes: knowing yourself, why you're interested in the college, and what you've done in high school. Interviewers want to get a sense of who you are beyond the application, so it really helps if you can thoughtfully articulate your experiences, achievements, and future goals.

Here are some common questions:

1. Can you tell me about yourself?

3. What are your academic interests and why are you drawn to them?

4. What are your favorite/least favorite subjects in high school, and why?

5. How do you spend your time outside of academics? (Extracurricular activities, hobbies)

Your responses should reflect authenticity, self-awareness, maturity, and a sincere interest in the college. Start with personal anecdotes or experiences when answering and then draw a conclusion from this. Being able to share specific stories from your high school career will enable your interviewer to get a more thorough understanding of you as an individual.

For example, if you are asked about your favorite subject, you can talk about a particular project or class that sparked your interest and what you enjoyed about it. If asked about an accomplishment, share your role, the challenges you faced, what you learned, and perhaps how it shaped your perspective.
