Could colleges reconsider an earlier rejection after an interview?

Is it possible for colleges to change their decision and accept someone after they've initially been rejected if the interview goes really well? I'm trying to understand what might happen if I have a good interview after receiving a rejection.

While it's understandable that you're exploring different possibilities, it's important to note that once a college has officially rejected an application, the decision is typically final. This holds true even if you have had an interview with an alum or a college representative where you felt you did particularly well. The interview process usually occurs before admission decisions are made and does not result in reconsideration after a decision has been issued.

College admissions offices evaluate an entire applicant pool and make considered decisions. This evaluation includes all elements of an application - test scores, grade point average, essays, letters of recommendation, and any interviews or supplements requested by the institution. Once they've made their decision, it's very uncommon for it to be reversed.

As disheartening as a rejection can be, it's important to remember there are many colleges and universities, and one decision does not define your worth or potential. If you've been rejected from a school, focusing on the options available to you and looking at how you can make the most of those opportunities might be a healthy way forward. You will find other schools where you'll excel and be happy. Keep your head up and remember that resilience is an asset in both college and life beyond it.
