What are some good money trade jobs after high school?

I'm exploring options after high school, and I've heard that trade jobs can be lucrative. Does anyone know what trade jobs pay well and don't require a college degree? I'm thinking of something I could start relatively soon.

There is indeed a wide range of rewarding trade roles that don't require a four-year degree. Here are some that are known to be quite lucrative:

1. Electrician: This role involves the installation, inspection, and repair of electrical systems. A trade school program typically lasts about four years, but you simultaneously work as an apprentice, which allows you to earn while you learn.

2. Plumber: Plumbers work with diverse plumbing systems to ensure that water comes in and out of buildings properly. The duration of apprenticeships can vary, but you generally get paid during these programs.

3. HVAC Technician: HVAC techs install, repair, and maintain heating, ventilation, and cooling systems. It typically requires some post-secondary education or an apprenticeship.

4. Welder: Welders join metal parts using heat. While you can get into welding with a high school diploma, many welders attend technical school to learn the trade.

5. Elevator Mechanic: This role involves repairing, maintaining, and installing elevators, escalators, and similar equipment. Prospective elevator mechanics need to complete a four-year apprenticeship program, typically hosted by a union or contractor.

6. Automotive Service Technician/Mechanic: There's a need for skilled professionals who can repair, maintain, and inspect cars, trucks, and other vehicles.

7. Radiation Therapist: This medical trade job administers radiation treatments to patients with cancer. A two-year associate's degree is usually required for entry-level positions.

8. Dental Hygienist: Dental hygienists clean patients' teeth, take x-rays, and provide other preventative dental care. This role usually requires an associate's degree in dental hygiene, which typically takes three years to complete.

Remember, although these trades do tend to pay quite well, they can be physically demanding and carry a risk of injury. Make sure to diligently research the demands and obligations of any prospective trade job to see if it aligns with your long-term goals and lifestyle preferences.
