Schools Needing Interviews in 2025: How to Prepare?

Some of my top college choices require interviews for admissions in 2025. Can anyone give me tips on how to prepare effectively? What's usually expected in these interviews?

Absolutely, I'd be happy to provide a few pointers. Note that each school might have a slightly different approach to interviews, but generally, they seek to get a better sense of who you are beyond grades and test scores.

1. Research: Familiarize yourself with the school, its culture, mission, and programs. This will not only demonstrate your interest, but it can also give you a basis to answer questions like "Why this College?"

2. Practice: Running through possible questions can help you feel more prepared. Common ones include "Tell me about yourself?", "Why are you interested in this school?", and "What are your academic/professional goals?" Practice your answers, but avoid memorizing them word-for-word to keep them sounding natural.

3. Understand the format: Some schools hold one-on-one interviews, while others have group interviews. You might interview in-person, or through video conferencing. Knowing the format can help you feel more at ease during the actual interview.

4. Be Professional: Remember that this is a formal conversation. Dress appropriately and maintain good body language. Even if the interview is done virtually, treat it with the same seriousness as you would an in-person interview.

5. Be prepared to ask questions: At the end of the interview, you'll likely be given a chance to ask your own questions. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the school and show your enthusiasm for it.

Remember that the interview is just one piece of the application puzzle—it's important, but it's not the sole factor in your admission decision. Good luck!
