What are some good talking points for a college interview?

I have an upcoming interview with one of my top choice colleges. Can anyone suggest some insightful talking points or topics to discuss that could help me stand out and make a memorable impression?

Sure! The main aim in a college interview is to give the interviewer a sense of who you are, beyond the transcripts and test scores. Good talking points should highlight your experiences, passions, and future goals. Here are a few direction points:

1. Your Academic Interest: You should be ready to discuss why you're interested in the field you plan to study in college. You don't have to know your exact major, but speaking about the subjects that excite you and how you hope to explore them further at college will definitely be a plus.

2. Extracurricular Activities: Discuss your involvement outside of the classroom and how it ties into your overall narrative. For example, if you're involved in a community service project, talk about what it means to you and how it has shaped your perspective.

3. Personal Achievements: Think about what you're most proud of and why. These achievements can be from any area of your life and don't necessarily have to be school-related. The important part is that you're able to convey your passion and pride when discussing your accomplishment.

4. Goals and Aspirations: Discuss your long-term goals and how attending this college will help you accomplish them. If there's a specific program or aspect about the college that makes it a perfect fit for your future plans, highlight that fact.

5. Challenge Overcome: Speak about a significant challenge you've faced and how you've dealt with it. This is a good way to discuss personal growth and resiliency, traits colleges appreciate.

6. Why the College: Have a few specific reasons as to why this college is your top choice. Is there a specific program, opportunity or aspect of campus culture that has particularly drawn you?

Remember, while it's good to prepare, try to not sound over-rehearsed or inauthentic. Your enthusiasm and genuine interest should shine through above all else.

Finally, prepare your own questions. Given that interviews are also for you to get to know the college better, having insightful questions for your interviewer can show your serious consideration for the school.
