University of Michigan undergraduate admissions interviews: Are they a thing?

I'm considering applying to the University of Michigan and I was wondering if they conduct interviews for undergraduate admissions. If they do, what should I know about them, like the format and content?

The University of Michigan does not generally offer or require interviews as part of its undergraduate admission process. So, you won't need to prepare for an interview if you're applying to this institution.

That being said, they do have 'Michigan in-person' events hosted by alumni across different cities. While not a formal interview, these events can be a good opportunity to learn more about the university from those who have attended, ask questions, and potentially make an impression.

However, the College of Engineering specifically, does offer optional Team-Based Discussions. These are not typical one-on-one interviews, but instead, should be seen as conversations held with other applicants and a facilitator, usually focused on a specific engineering-related problem or situation. They're a great opportunity to show your creative thinking, collaborative skills, and passion for engineering.

Remember, since neither of these events plays a formal role in the admissions process, your preparation should focus primarily on your application, academic performance, extracurricular involvement, and the writing of your essays. These are the areas that can substantially impact your admission prospects.
