What to expect in Washington University in St. Louis interviews?

I'm hoping to get into WashU, and the interview process is looming in the back of my mind. How do I prepare for an interview there? Are there any specific questions or topics they focus on?

WashU has "Bear Chats," which are available to any interested student beginning the spring before their senior year. Bear Chats allow you to spend 15-20 minutes chatting one-on-one with a current student. They tend to take on a casual, conversational style, with questions geared toward getting to know you better and understanding your interest in WashU. Although the format of the conversation can vary based on your Bear Ambassador, one should expect the usual questions, such as:

1. "Why are you interested in WashU?"

2. "What major do you plan to pursue and why?"

3. "What extracurricular activities are you involved in and how have those shaped you?"

4. "How do you intend to use your education from WashU post-graduation?"

Remember, these conversations are a two-way street. You'd also have the chance to ask the interviewer questions about student life, the culture at WashU, how their experience as a student influenced their career path or any other aspect of the school you'd like to know more about.

Remember to be genuine, maintain eye contact, and most importantly, be yourself throughout the conversation. As for logistics, make sure you know the date, time, and mode (online or in-person) of your conversation, and try to arrive at least ten minutes early if it's in-person, or check your tech beforehand if it's remote.

Good luck!
