Tips for University of Virginia alumni interviews?

I have an alumni interview coming up for UVA, and I'm looking for advice. What should I expect or prepare for? Would love any tips on how to make a good impression.

An alumni interview can be a wonderful opportunity to not only showcase your strengths and ambitions but also to learn more about UVA from a personal perspective.

Do some research about UVA ahead of time and prepare to answer questions about why you're interested in attending UVA specifically. Have a clear sense of what the school offers and how it aligns with your academic and career goals. Highlight any unique programs, classes, or traditions at UVA that attract you.

Like all interviews, the interviewer will be looking for evidence of your character, extracurricular involvement, and leadership potential. Prepare to talk about experiences and achievements that demonstrate these qualities. Remember the "STAR" technique (Situation, Task, Action, Result) as a useful tool for structuring your answers to behavioral questions.

Alumni interviews are an excellent opportunity to gain more insight into the school's culture, alumni network, or any particular aspect that you're curious about. Prepare insightful questions to ask your interviewer, which will not only reveal your genuine interest in the school but will also help you gather valuable information that can aid in your final decision-making process.

Lastly, make a good impression through good manners - be punctual, dress appropriately, and remember to thank your interviewer for their time. A thank-you note after the interview demonstrates your appreciation but also leaves a lasting positive impression.

Bear in mind, although the interview may play some role in the admissions process, UVA along with many other schools doesn't heavily weigh "demonstrated interest." So while it's good to make a positive impression, do not venture into unnecessary worries about acing the interview.

Good luck with your UVA interview!
