What Should I Wear for a Brown University Video?

I'm recording my video supplement for Brown University and I'm not sure about the dress code. What's appropriate attire for this kind of video with a university like Brown?

The key to dressing for any video component of your application, including the one for Brown University, is to look neat, professional, and comfortable.

Generally, business casual is a safe bet. For men, business casual could include a nice pair of khaki, dress pants, or dark-colored jeans, paired with a collared shirt. You could add a blazer or sweater if you'd like, but it isn't necessary. Solid colors or simple patterns are usually best. Ensure your shoes are clean and not overly casual (sneakers or flip-flops aren't ideal).

For women, a blouse or sweater paired with a skirt, dress pants, or more refined jeans could work. Dresses are also acceptable, preferably knee-length or longer. Try to avoid clothing items that are too revealing or flashy. For shoes, flats or heels that aren't too high are usually a good choice.

Even though you're only going to be recording from the chest up, dressing professionally head to toe is a great way to get yourself in the right overall mindset. Additionally, while this video is not the same thing as an interview, the dress code is basically the same, so you may find this blog post from CollegeVine helpful: https://blog.collegevine.com/what-to-wear-to-your-college-interview/

Remember, you want the admissions officers viewing your video to focus on you, not your clothes. Therefore, it's usually best to avoid anything too flashy or attention-grabbing. Avoid wearing too much jewelry or loud patterns. Also, make sure your clothes are in good condition and wrinkle-free.

Lastly, be comfortable! You don't want to be pulling at an uncomfortable outfit or be sitting stiffly while recording your video. This is your chance to show off who you are as a candidate, not your fashion sense. A comfortable and confident applicant is always more impressive than an overly formal one.
