Lehigh University Virtual Interviews

Since I'm not able to visit Lehigh University in person, I'm considering doing a virtual interview. Does anyone know how these virtual interviews work and if they're as beneficial as the on-campus ones? What should I expect?

Virtual interviews are quite effective and serve similar purposes to the on-campus ones such as getting a personalized understanding of the school, exhibiting your interest in the institution, and showcasing your qualifications. Lehigh University describes their interviews as "informal conversations" which allow you to learn more about Lehigh and enable them to learn more about you. These interviews are conducted by admissions staff, trained student fellows, or alumni.

In terms of the format, you'll be asked to use an online video conferencing platform, like Zoom. You should expect the interview to last around 30-45 minutes. The interviewer will likely ask questions about your academic interests, extracurricular activities, and why you're interested in Lehigh. You can also ask your questions about the school's programs, campus culture, or any other aspect you wish to know more about.

In preparation for the interview, thoroughly research the university, its programs, and campus culture. Be ready to articulate why Lehigh University appeals to you specifically, what you hope to achieve there, and how you can contribute to their community.

Remember to dress as you would for an in-person interview. Find a quiet, well-lit area for your interview where you're unlikely to be disturbed. Test your tech setup to ensure that your video and audio work.

Please note that the availability of these interviews may be limited and slots are often filled on a first-come, first-served basis. So, if you decide to go for a virtual interview, you should schedule it as early as you can. Lehigh states that while interviews are not a required part of their application process, the interactions do provide them with a broader picture of the applicant.

Overall, as long as you prepare well, approach the conversation with enthusiasm, and relay your interest in the institution, a virtual interview can be as beneficial as an in-person one!
