What is a gap year called in Canada?

I'm considering taking a gap year, but I keep hearing different terms used in Canada. Is it called the same thing there, or is there a different name? Just curious about any cultural differences in terminology.

In Canada, the term "gap year" is still commonly used to refer to the year taken off between high school and college, or sometimes during college. However, you might also hear it referred to as a "bridge year" or "transitional year." An alternate term is "intermission," though this isn't as common. The concept is the same: a period of time spent exploring other experiences and interests before continuing one's academic trajectory.
