Why do universities conduct interviews for applicants?

I'm curious about the real reason behind university interviews. Is it just about getting to know the student better, or are there other factors they consider during this process? Trying to understand its importance as I'm prepping for one.

University interviews play a multifaceted role in the admissions process. While their importance varies from college to college, they generally serve a few key purposes:

1. Assessing the student's genuine interest in the school: Interviews can help admissions officers judge if your interest in that institution is sincere.
