Are interviews required for applicants to Duke University?

I'm applying to Duke University, and I want to know if they require an interview for all applicants. Is it only for specific majors or programs? Also, does having an interview give applicants an advantage? Thanks for any info!

Duke University does offer interviews to applicants, but they are optional, not required. The university extends interview invitations based on the availability of alumni interviewers in your area, not based on the major or program to which you're applying.

An interview could potentially give an applicant an edge if it's particularly impressive, as it could fortify a personal connection to the school and provide a more nuanced picture of the applicant. However, not having an interview won't disadvantage your application, since the opportunity to interview is largely dependent on logistic factors outside of the applicant's control.

If you're offered an opportunity to interview, it would be beneficial to take it, as it's a chance for Duke to get to know you better beyond your paper application. The interview is more of a conversation than a formal interview. Remember, it's as much about you getting to know the university as it is about them getting to know you.

Good luck with your application!
