What does the college application process at Valencia College look like?

I'm planning to apply to Valencia College soon, and I'm trying to get a clear view of their application process. Can anyone share their experience or point me to a resource that explains how to navigate it effectively?

Applying to Valencia College is a pretty straightforward process. First, you will need to complete an online application through Valencia's official website. Make sure to double-check all of your entries for accuracy before submission.

After you submit your application, you'll have to pay an application fee. As of 2024, the application fee is $35. This fee can be waived for eligible students.

Next, you'll need to submit your high school transcripts. Valencia needs to review your credits, graduation status, grade point average, etc. If you've taken any college-level courses, you'll want to submit your college transcripts as well.

One of the significant points of the Valencia application process is placement testing. Valencia College requires all degree-seeking students to be tested for college readiness in reading, writing, and math. If you have taken the SAT or ACT and scored high enough, you may be exempt from this placement testing.

Once your transcripts and (if applicable) test scores have been reviewed, you'll need to complete the New Student Orientation. This orientation will help familiarize you with the college, its resources, and what it expects from students.

Valencia College is an open-access institution, which means that they accept all students with a high school diploma or GED regardless of their previous academic performance. But, the placement testing and other elements of your application may affect your course placements.

After you've completed these steps and been admitted, the final piece of the puzzle is to register for classes. You'll be able to do this online through your student portal, and it's a good idea to get this done as early as possible to get the classes and schedule that work best for you.

Keep in mind that deadlines are especially important, and different steps might have different ones. Make sure to check Valencia's official website or contact the admissions office directly for any updated, specific dates.

And finally, if you plan to request financial aid, make sure to submit your FAFSA as soon as possible. Valencia's Federal School Code is 006750.

That's a quick overview of the process! Valencia also provides a lot of resources to support students through the application process, so don't hesitate to reach out to their Admissions department if you have any questions.
