The University of California (UC) schools don't technically require "personal statements"--instead, they ask for four "Personal Insight Questions" (PIQs) out of eight possible prompts. These prompts cover a wide range of topics and allow you to illuminate different aspects of your personality, experiences, and achievements. Here are a few tips on making these responses as impactful as possible:

1. Tailor each response: With each prompt, you should focus on different aspects of your life and experience. For instance, one PIQ could be about your academic interests, another could delve into an extracurricular activity, and so on.
