Insights into American River College application process?

Considering applying to American River College, but I'm not sure where to start. Can anyone share their experiences or tips on navigating the application process? Any important deadlines or things I should be aware of?

American River College, like many community colleges, has an open admission policy, which means that anyone who has completed high school or earned a GED can enroll. Their application process is relatively straightforward.

Here are the steps:

1. Apply Online: You can begin the process by applying online through the California Community Colleges' website. It's generally a system-wide application used by community colleges throughout the state. You’ll need to create an OpenCCC account, if you don’t already have one.

2. Await Confirmation: After you submit your application, you will receive an email from the college confirming that your application has been received. It may take a few days for your application to be processed.

3. Student ID: Next, the college will send you a Student ID number. You should keep this number at hand as you'll need it for most interactions with the college.

4. Complete the Orientation: American River College requires new students to complete an online orientation, which provides information on college resources, programs, and services.

5. Assessment: While there's no strict requirement for SAT or ACT scores, it's recommended that you provide any relevant test scores or transcripts to assist with the assessment for course placement.

6. Education Plan: Based on your assessment and your intended major, you'll need to develop an education plan. This can often be done in collaboration with a college counselor. It’s basically a blueprint for what classes you need to take to accomplish your academic goals.

7. Register for Classes: Based on your education plan, you can then proceed to register for classes online through the student portal, known as eServices.

It's a good idea to start these steps as early as possible, as course availability can sometimes be limited.

Regarding deadlines, be aware of the key dates in the academic calendar, including registration deadlines, the start date of classes, and deadlines for dropping classes with a refund.

Remember, since American River College has a rolling admissions philosophy, you can apply at any time throughout the year.

Good luck with your application!
