What's the future demand for skilled trade jobs?

I'm curious about career paths outside of the traditional college route, particularly skilled trades. How is the demand looking for skilled trade jobs in the future? Are there specific trades that are expected to grow? Any advice is welcome!

The demand for skilled trade jobs is expected to steadily increase in the coming years. This growth can be attributed to several reasons. For one, many skilled workers are nearing the age of retirement, which means new positions are frequently opening up. Additionally, the demand for new infrastructure and the need to maintain and repair existing infrastructure is continuous.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, several skilled trades are expected to see faster than average growth in the next decade. For instance, careers such as wind turbine technicians and solar photovoltaic installers are predicted to see high growth due to the push for alternative energy sources. Similarly, plumbers, electricians, and HVAC mechanics also show optimistic prospects due to increasing construction projects and the need for home repairs. Another booming field is technology repair; as we continue to rely heavily on technology, the need for technicians to maintain and repair these devices will persist.

That said, keep in mind that demand can vary based on location. It's always a good idea to research the trades in demand in the specific areas where you're interested in working.

Moreover, don't forget to consider what your interests and talents are when deciding on a trade. Sure, job demand is important, but you also want to ensure that you would enjoy the work you're going into. If you're just starting to investigate skilled trades, consider job shadowing or internships to gain first-hand experience.

Remember, the skilled trades offer the opportunity to build a rewarding, profitable career without the financial burden of a four-year degree. It's all about finding the right trade that matches your skills and interests and observing the job market where you plan on working.
