No qualifications needed for trade jobs?

Are there any trade jobs I can get into right after high school without needing prior qualifications or training? I'm ready to work but not sure where to start!

It's great that you're exploring different pathways after high school! While certain trade jobs do provide on-the-job training, many jobs in the skilled trades do require some level of training or experience prior to employment.

Many trades, such as electricians, plumbers, or HVAC technicians, usually require a period of apprenticeship where you would be working under a seasoned professional to learn the trade while also earning money. These apprenticeships can last anywhere from 1 to 5 years.

Some jobs like construction laborers, painters, or manufacturing production workers might require less initial training and can often be hired straight out of high school.

Auto mechanics can start with basic jobs right out of high school but to advance and work on more complex vehicle issues, certification from a program like those offered by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is usually required.

Home health aides and certified nursing assistants (CNAs) provide essential care to elderly or disabled individuals. Training programs for these careers can often be completed in less than a year.

Please keep in mind, even for posts considered "entry-level", many employers look for some level of relevant experience or training. You could gain this experience through high school vocational programs (if offered), after-school or summer jobs, or internships in the field you're interested in.

Lastly, remember to always check the requirements for each position you apply for, as these can vary greatly. And don't be discouraged by initial rejections; finding a job can take time but with persistence, you'll find the right opportunity. Good luck!
