Skilled Trade Jobs in the Music Industry

I'm interested in pursuing a career in the music industry but not necessarily as a performer. Are there any skilled trade jobs within the industry that someone could consider after high school?

The music industry has a multitude of career paths that don't necessarily involve being a performer. Here are some trade jobs within the industry that you might consider:

1. Sound Technician: Sound techs are responsible for ensuring the sound quality during live performances or studio recordings. Their role includes setting up soundboards and microphones, mixing soundtracks, and adjusting sound levels as needed. It's a role that requires a good ear and technical knowledge.

2. Studio Engineer: A step up from a sound technician, a studio engineer often works on recording sessions and in post-production, with responsibilities that could include setting up microphones, operating recording equipment, and mixing tracks.

3. Music Producer: While this role often requires some music knowledge, it's more about coordinating the entire production process. Music producers are often responsible for overseeing recordings, mixing and mastering, and sometimes even marketing and distribution.

4. Instrument Technician or Luthier: Instrument technicians repair and maintain instruments. For example, a guitar tech would be responsible for tuning guitars, changing strings, and doing any necessary repair work. If you love working with your hands and have a passion for musical instruments, this could be a great path.

5. Concert/Event Planner: Concert Planners organize and manage musical events, which includes everything from booking venues to coordinating artists and staff to managing budgets and marketing.
