Considering a Trade Job?

I've heard there's a shortage of people working trade jobs. As a high school junior trying to figure out my future path, should I seriously consider entering a trade? Anyone have experiences or insights on this?

Absolutely, considering a trade job is a valid and potentially lucrative career path. Skilled trades encompass a wide range of jobs in fields such as construction, mechanics, plumbing, electricians, etc. They often require less schooling and have less student debt compared to a traditional four-year degree, and yet, they can lead to high-income careers.

There are a few things you might want to think about though. First, find out if you actually enjoy the work before making a final decision. You can do this by interning, job shadowing, or taking related classes at your high school or a local community college. This will help you get a solid understanding of the day-to-day complexities of the job.

Also, research potential trade fields and check out growth projections, income potential, and how particular trades are growing or declining in your region. You would ideally want to choose a trade that has good job prospects and salaries, and also matches your interests and skill set.

Lastly, entering a trade often means starting work straight after post-secondary training, which could be beneficial for those eager to enter the workforce. However, you should also consider that some people might find the physical demands of certain trades difficult over time.

In conclusion, there's a big need for skilled trade workers right now, so it's definitely a viable option, but like with any career path, it will require some thoughtful research and consideration on your part.
