Do trade school jobs require degrees?

I'm looking into trade school jobs, and I'm wondering if they require a degree or just certifications. Would love to hear from anyone who knows how important formal education is for these paths.

Most jobs in the trades require professional training through vocational schools, community colleges, apprenticeships, or on-the-job training, rather than traditional 4-year degrees. The end goal is often certification in their chosen career—welders, electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians, for instance, all earn certifications.

However, formal education does come in handy. For instance, an Associate's Degree in Applied Science is common in fields such as Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) or Automotive Technology and can boost career prospects and earning potential. That said, in these fields, practical experience and hands-on skills are essential and often valued more than formal education per se.

It's important to note that requirements can vary by state and job. In some states, for example, plumbers and electricians need licenses in addition to certifications. Therefore, it would be best to research the specific requirements for the trade careers you're considering in your specific location.
