Worried about trade skill jobs being automated?

I keep hearing how automation is affecting jobs. Are trade skill jobs safe from being taken over by machines in the near future? I'm interested in a hands-on career and want to know the prospects.

Automation is indeed transforming several industries, including some trades. However, many trade skill jobs involve tasks that require the complex problem-solving abilities, precision, and nuanced understanding that machines haven't yet been able to master.

For example, auto mechanics often need to diagnose problems that aren't immediately apparent or can't be predicted accurately by automated systems. Similarly, careers like electricians, plumbers, and carpenters require a level of skill and finesse that machines and artificial intelligence can't yet replicate. Human qualities such as adaptability and the ability to interpret and react to unpredictable situations continue to make humans irreplaceable in many trade skills.

Nonetheless, it's smart to consider your career path in terms of its potential to be automated. Jobs that involve repetitive tasks are more prone to automation than those that require abstract reasoning or creativity. As a result, trade skills that involve a high degree of creativity, problem-solving, or direct customer interaction have a lower risk of automation.

In conclusion, while automation is indeed an important consideration in today's job market, many trade skill jobs are expected to remain safe for the foreseeable future due to their inherent complexity and the unique human skills required.
