Can I update my college application after I've submitted it?

I made a mistake in one of my college applications I already submitted. Is there a way to update or change it, or will I have to contact the admissions office directly?

It's inevitable that sometimes mistakes are made in the course of completing college applications. Don't panic, it happens to the best of us. In most cases, once you've submitted your application, you can't make changes to it online. This includes any updating, editing or modifying of the submitted content.

That being said, it's important to quickly address any mistakes or omissions in order to provide the most accurate representation of your abilities and experiences to the admissions committee. The best course of action would be to directly contact the admissions office of the school you have applied to. Explain the mistake and ask them for the appropriate steps on how to rectify it.

When contacting them, I would recommend doing so via an email or a phone call, depending on your comfort level. In your communication, ensure to be concise, clear, and respectful. Briefly explain the error and offer the correct information. Be prepared to provide your application ID number or other identifying information so they can locate your specific application.

However, keep in mind that if the mistake is small or won't significantly impact your application - like a minor typo, for instance - it's usually best not to draw attention to it.

But remember, honesty is vital in this situation. It's important to correct the error, particularly if it involves crucial information such as your personal details, academic record or extracurricular activities. The goal is for the admissions committee to evaluate your application based on accurate and truthful information. Good luck!
